Abstract

The reuse of water in industries has become a viable option to reduce the emission of effluents in watercourses, as well as water pollution generated by this sector. Considering the importance of this action, this study aimed to evaluate the potential of use treated effluents from dairies. For as much as, were compared the effluent characteristics produced in dairy industries, in terms of potential of Hydrogen (pH), biological oxygen demand (BOD5), total suspended solids (TSS), turbidity and fecal coliforms, after being treated, with the quality requirements found in national and international regulations for industrial reuse. The analysis of the data allowed to verify that among the treatments systems studied the coagulation-flocculation and aerobic biodegradation; coagulation, adsorption, membrane separation and reverse osmosis; activated sludge; electrocoagulation; membrane bioreactor and photocatalytic oxidation (UV/H2O2/ZnO) allowed the effluent to be delivered to the desired quality, for the studied parameters, which could be combined or not.
