THE IMPORTANCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROJECTSIN A UNIT OF CONSERVATION IN THE NORTHEASTERN SEMI-ARID

The caatinga is the less protected Brazilian biome , with low percentage of Units of Conservation. The Private Reserve of Natural Heritage is a category that belongs to the Units of Conservation of sustainable use, which results in several environmental benefits. This article aimed, at general, to analyze projects involving environmental education developed in the Private Reserve of Natural Heritage Serra das Almas, inserted in the caatinga, in the municipality of Crateús, Ceará. The methodology is based on the accomplishment of bibliographical documentary research, to portray projects that focused on environmental education in the Reserve. The development of educational actions in a contextualized way with the semi-arid assists in the work of sensitizing the population to conserve natural resources and promotes the dissemination of information about the importance of this biome. It is observed that the implementation of these projects in the Private Reserve of Natural Heritage reinforced the biome conservation, contributing to the environmental maintenance and encouraging the intensification of protective actions.
