OCCURRENCE OF PESTICIDES IN WASTEWATER IRRIGATED RICE IN SOUTHERN SANTA CATARINA

This study aimed to evaluate the presence of pesticide residues in surface water drainage from irrigated rice fields in pre-germinated system in southern Santa Catarina, Brazil. We analyzed water samples collected in the irrigation canals and drainage system of a multiuser irrigation system during three growing seasons. Carbofuran residues were found in samples of drainage water collected in the three years of monitoring, with concentrations up to 5 μg.L-1. The majority (81%) of surface water samples from drainage areas of irrigated rice fields contained residues of at least 1 herbicide. Among the herbicides, bentazone had the highest frequency (50%), however, residues of bispyribac-sodium, quinclorac and thiobencarb were also found. Among the fungicides, tryciclazole, azoxystrobin and tebuonazol were seen. Residues of the insecticide Malathion were detected in 5.2% of the samples, but at concentrations below the detection limit.Downloads
