Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of tannery sludge composted fish leather in the recovery of chemical and biological attributes of a degraded soil. The experiment was conducted at the Palmetto State Forest– Paranaguá. The residue was generated by tanning fish skin with sawdust compost, this was applied at a rate of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% of tannery sludge composted (TSC) in relation to a degraded soil. Carbon, soil basal respiration, microbial biomass carbon, microbial quotient, metabolic quotient and electrical conductivity were evaluated in two seasons, as indicators of the effects of TSC on degraded soil parameters. The arrangement of TSC on degraded soil caused increases in organic carbon, basal respiration, microbial biomass carbon and electrical conductivity. The TSC showed potential for recovery of biological soil properties.
